Sharon Byers

Chief Development, Marketing and Communications Officer

Sharon Byers is chief development, marketing, and communications officer at the American Cancer Society, Inc. She oversees corporate alliances, integrated marketing, creative strategy, digital marketing, and corporate communications. She also has responsibility for all American Cancer Society income properties, including Relay For Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, major gifts, distinguished partners, sports and corporate partnerships, and other revenue-generating functions.

Under Sharon’s leadership, the American Cancer Society has evolved to more effectively harness the power of partnerships and activists around the world. Her efforts to grow sports alliances, corporate partnerships, and community-based organizations are uniting companies, CEOs, coaches, athletes, celebrities, and communities in the fight against cancer. 

Prior to joining the American Cancer Society in 2015, Sharon worked for The Coca-Cola Company, where she was the senior vice president of sports, entertainment, and community marketing partnerships for North America. In this role, her team managed more than 500 strategic partnerships, including premier properties such as the Olympics, the NCAA, NBA, NASCAR, and relationships with LeBron James, Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift, and American Idol.  

Sharon has been recognized as one of the 50 Most Important People in Sports and the number one Most Influential Woman in Sports by Sports Illustrated, Marketer of the Year by Cynopsis Sports Media in both 2014 and 2015, Woman of the Year by the Women in Sports and Events Organization, and one of the 50 Most Powerful People in Sports and Sports Industry Game Changers by Sports Business Journal. Sharon also serves on the boards of Special Olympics of Atlanta, the Atlanta Opera, and the Atlanta Zoo. She has a degree in finance from Auburn University and is a certified public accountant.
